Explanation of Instillation: “In our culture there is no place for a women”

Instillation:“In our culture there is no place for a women”
  • Through our instillation we want to explore Asian feminism through all 48 countries
  • Why? Asian feminism is seen as a taboo subject
  • Through our instillation piece we will include a baby's mobile: this will represent a child growing up in a feminist world of Asia. Through this there will be a variety of Asian countries dangling down in vibrant colours. Furthermore on top of the mobile there will be a base that will have research of feminism history in Asia.
  • Through this the audience will enter the child perspective as if they were growing in a feminist world.
  • Beneath the instillation there will be a bed were the audience are able to lay down and look above the instillation
  • We all also have a projection of spoken words by gabies mother who has experience abuse and her reaction towards feminism. This will create a more personal view for individuals watching this. This will be all translated in English.
  • At the back of the room we want to include a board which has posters that will be created by me.
  • There will be surrounded sound which will be gabies mum speaking in Indonesian.

The efforts of Bengali reformers included abolishing sati, which was a widow's death by burning on her husband's funeral pyre,  abolishing the custom of child marriage, abolishing the disfiguring of widows, introducing the marriage of upper caste  Hindu  widows, promoting women's education, obtaining legal rights for women to own property, and requiring the law to acknowledge women's status by granting them basic rights ...
