Evaluation: “In our culture there is no place for a women”

“In our culture there is no place for a women”

Through our research, we discovered that in Asian countries feminism is known as a taboo subject and has not been well recognised nation wide. After some idea development, we decided to find some resourceful ideas online such as Wikipedia to develop our ideas of Asian feminism . However, doing this did not feel as though we were creating an authentic, innovative piece of instillation, so we decided to be ambitious, going a step further and finding real Asian feminist groups.Using actual resources such as the feminist library, Gabies mother and Facebook groups in Asia gave the piece a much more authentic feel, and helped us to better achieve what we originally set out to do – to highlight feminism in Asian culture, In addition, this also increased the enjoyment of the instillation making process for us as a group, as we felt a stronger connection to the topic and an excitement to see the results of our experiment.Through our instillation piece we were pleased with the idea of the mobile,Bed and posters and how they all complemented each  other to represent our key topic of Asian feminism however we felt that some of the elements were not needed within the piece. Inaddtion we were really pleased to rearranged the projection on to the bed however the audience weren't able to sleep on the bed and all of there focus was on that element. But I believed that the projection looked really effective on the bed and it stood out.

Overall we feel our project has achieved what we intended it to and it is effective in providing an insight into the world of Asian feminism.

The efforts of Bengali reformers included abolishing sati, which was a widow's death by burning on her husband's funeral pyre,  abolishing the custom of child marriage, abolishing the disfiguring of widows, introducing the marriage of upper caste  Hindu  widows, promoting women's education, obtaining legal rights for women to own property, and requiring the law to acknowledge women's status by granting them basic rights ...

I was able to be put in group with gabie livingstone and we both have the same interest of feminism as we are not able to proceed with our original ideas due to disorganisation and time limit of the DCMP course. Furthermore we are put in a interactive media however we still can explore different pathways include photography and moving image.
